ART NEWS

I hope that everybody that are following or reads this, are well.

As mentioned before, I will come back here when something is going on Art wise.

I've got a new website since I last posted on this blog. But if you follow my Instagram, you probably already know that. If not, please check it out and give me some feedback.

Otherwise I have participated in a few things.

In 2020 I participated in ENSEMBLE, 7e DÉFI ARTISTIQUE, an online Art Exhibition from Sept-nov. There is a video on Youtube. My pictures are about 6 min. in.

In 2021, I participated in the Portraits of Resilience Project at the Art Gallery of Ontario AGO, with an abstract painting. It will be highlighted in the coming Exhibition: I AM HERE: Home movies and everyday masterpieces, together with entries from all over the world later this spring.

Hopefully more exciting news to come later this year.

Do you have any questions or are looking for original piece of abstract art, feel free to contact me. I am also open for studio visits; just notify me in advance. Thank you for your interest!

MY ARTIST JOURNEY

Almost two years ago, I decided to change my direction in life. From working with couture to get back to my old passion, painting.

Starseed, acrylic painting by John F. Clément

From an early age I was exposed to the Art world by visiting various art exhibitions with my late uncle, who was an avid Art collector.
Of course, what I did not know at that time, was the influence this would have on me. Though, today it is very clear.

Through the years, I have always had a need and a desire to create in one way or the other.
When I was younger, I attended different creative courses and drawing classes. Later on, I had some classic training at the Art Academy of Funen in Denmark, where I spend a few years.

In 1996, I decided to focus on design and graduated as a fashion designer and teacher from The Couture department at The College of Arts and Crafts in Odense, Denmark.
After obtaining my degree in 1999, I started my own design business in Denmark and later on in Montreal until 2019.
From then on, I finally decided it was time to embrace my passion for Art, by committing fully into painting. Now, it finally feels like the circle is complete. Take a look at some of my paintings here and here.

A NEW CHAPTER

After living five years in Montreal, something had to change. We decided to look ahead and bought a house in the countryside. It was not fun living in a big city under these current circumstances.

We realized what really was important for us. Working online more and more, we just needed something else, a more fulfilling project.

As you can see, the house is ancestral and fully furnished with period furniture, that we might sell some off in time. To get room for some of our own stuff. So, it is going to be a mix of period and modern furniture.

There is a big double garage, that needs some isolation and paint, that is going to work as my Atelier and Gallery. This is an ongoing project, that will take some time.

Hopefully we’ll be ready for springtime, where the plan is to start selling some of the furniture.

However, I am going to continue working on my stuff where ever I can, until then.

I am looking forward to welcome friends and family, as well as art lovers and new costumers from this area.

Meanwhile you could check out the top-menu, if you want to know more about me and how I might be able to help you.

MY ART PROCES

My painting process is such a personal journey for me. First and foremost it allows me to contemplate
.
Through contemplation, I realize, understand and express my experiences and point of view into paintings, instead of putting everything into words.

Triptych, abstract composition in acrylic and mixed media on paper.

This process continually allows me to explore new possibilities. I never know where this journey leads me and how it turns out, which is the intriguing part of it.

My inspiration is mainly drawn from impressions of my daily life. There’s inspiration everywhere, when you pay attention. For example: nature, architecture, moods, memories and moments of life. All things that affects me in some way.

I interpret all these impressions and convey them either conceptually or in an intuitive and visual way to evoke imagination and tell an intriguing story.

I am especially attracted to expressive abstract painting.

My approach is often intentional at first, with specific colors and a composition in mind. Especially the colors have such a strong impact - they are drawing me in. I am in another world for a moment of time.

But as soon as I start, intuition takes over and the composition, bold colours, layers and textures often ends up in surprising ways.

A FRAMING EXPERIENCE

Abstract landscapes in oil and cold wax by John F. Clément

Before the Corona 19 crisis hit, we went to Omer Deserres to have some of my paintings framed. Finally this past weekend we were able to pick them up.

But not without a surprise! The girl who took the order had messed up the measurements, so the price we agreed on were suddenly 33,59 dollars more expensive. It’s not the amount that matters, but merely the principle.

Because, why do we have to pay extra for their mistake.
With a price of  448,86 instead 415,27 and all the money I’ve spent there previously. In my opinion that is very unprofessional practice and poor customer service.

The guy who handled the sale was of course sorry and offered a 15 % discount on our next framing. Right! -On top of that, they just lost an extra sale.

Will I recommend anyone to have their art framed there - I don’t think so. It was a first and surely last time I will have anything framed at Deserres. And for future Art supplies I will probably go some where else.

I just hope Deserres found it worth it.

UPDATE!
Had a nice phone call from Deserres today. They were so sorry for all this and of course I’ll get reimbursed. Great!
