AWARD DRESSES

Some of my favourite dresses at The Golden Globe Awards this year, were Nathalie Portman, who wore a pink Lanvin gown, Angelina Jolie a white Atelier Versace and Tilda Swinton a lilac Haider Ackermann gown.

At big events like this, designers are always offering a selection of dresses from their latest collection, for stylist or the celebreties and actresses to pick from. The stars get to stand out and the designers get some valuable exposure. A profitable liaison.
These dresses are usually not made to measure, but made in a standard size, that might be adjusted.

 What were your favourites ?

DAYS OF ROYAL SPLENDOUR

The Royal welcoming committee
at the Gala dinner at Christianborg Castle.

This past weekend I have followed the culmination of all the 40 th. Jubilee celebrations around Queen Margrethe of Denmark, as a Monarch.

I was quite excited to see all the dresses at the different events. I won´t say a word about what I didn´t like, but try to stay positive and show a selection of dresses that in my opinion stod out and were inspiring.

As you can see The Royal family looks like they agreed on different shades of blue in velvet and silkduchess. Maybe in honour of late King Frederik 9. who died the day before The Queen took over.

Especially I noticed the dress of Princess Benedikte. Very interesting mix of color, fabric and technics. Notice how the light affects the color.
The simple dress of her sister, former Queen Anne Marie of Greece, with a nice bow-detail in the front looked elegant too.

Princess Nathalie of Berleburg, the daughter of Princess Benedikte also stod out in a very nice dress, that would have looked even nicer if the fit had been better.

The day before Danish television/ DR were celebrating The Queen with a nice Event in their Concert Hall. Here are the Scandinian Royals arriving.

Queen Margrethe in a new nice emerald-green lace-gown, most likely designed by herself and made by her personal tailor, Birgitte Thaulow

Queen Silvia of Sweden also looking nice in a pink lace- or brocade-gown.

Queen Sonja of Norway in an old, but remarkable gown from 1991, by the late danish couturier, Erik Mortensen of Balmain.

A ROCK-CHIC DRESS

This dress is my latest project.

I purchased this special piece of fabric last year in Montreal and what would be more obvious than to do a simple, but chic dress for a Rock Chick, right! Who could you imagine wearing it ?

The dress is a size 6 and European size 36, needs to be lined though, which means there is still time for adjustments if you want it.

DISTRACTIONS

-Sometimes I get the feeling, that I'm caught up and getting nowhere. Maybe you know what I mean.

Because, fashion is a tough world of dreams and aspirations that you easily can get caught up in, if you don´t remember why and what you are doing.

According to Karl Lagerfeld, it is interpretations of classics and of our time that is pushing fashion forward and making it new. In short: Vision and Re-invention.

It is a good reminder. Because so much is going on in the fashion world, that it's sometimes hard to keep up and make it, without forgetting what you are doing and why you are working in this fasci-nating world, that is changing all the time.

I think the best way to go on is to be persistent and make the things that you believe in, without getting too distracted. To work on your own vision and make it come true.

Success will eventually follow if you stick to that. But to compromise it, will probably jeopardize your integrity. What is your motive and your vision, if you have any ?

Here is a little reminder!

ROYAL EXHIBITIONS

This year we will be celebrating Queen Margrethe of Denmark, because of her 40th Jubilee as a Monarch, with two special exhibitions, that I personally look forward to.

The first one is a retrospective exhibition at The Museum of National History at Frederiksborg Castle, that tells the story of her role as a Monarch.

The other one "Kongelig Galla" - Eventyrlig Couture at "De Danske Kongers kronologiske Samling" at Amalienborg Castle, displays a selection of the Queen´s Gala-dresses since the 1960´es from Danish and international Couturiers as Pierre Balmain. Absolutely a must see if you like fashion-history and Haute Couture.
