Fashion photograph from Jean Voigts Fantastic Look Collection 1984.
A big retrospective exhibition of Jean Voigts Costumes and Art has opened at Textilforum in Herning the 6. of november. Simultaniously as his partner and muse, Maria Sander is publishing a biography about Jean Voigt. Read a review here.
Jean Voigt (1940-1996), lived a very intense life. He was a trained tailor at Magasin and worked as young for both Balenciaga and Pierre Cardin in Paris.
He had his own Salon in Copenhagen from 1962-67, but also worked as a costumier, fashion creator and artist. In the 1980 he had his own fashion house for a short number of years.
He spent his last years at the Manor house Rosenlund in Lolland, where he had his atelier.
Jean Voigt died of aids, 56 years old.
The Exhibition can be seen until the 20 of march 2011.
On a personal note! - I heard a few stories about Jean from my friend Ann Susan, who as young and a trained fashion designer, assisted him, creating costumes for plays at the small Teater, Sorte Hest and Riddersalen.
Ann Susan was an artist and owner of Gallery Projekt in Copenhagen.
