GAME CHANGERS

I admire human beings like these, who use their means and influence to make a difference, to make the world a better place to live. Just imagine what the world would look like, if nobody cared. They are an inspiration!

PAY IT FORWARD

-Is a very good and strong philosophy to live by.

When you think about how the past have influenced todays fashion and everything else, you have to pay attention and act towards that. Because what ever you do, will also affect the future somehow.

So why not make the most of it and Pay it forward? Because everything you do, will come/get back to you, one way or another. To make a difference, be aware, be conscious, be the best you can, for a better world.

Take a look at one of my favorite movies: "Pay it forward" and get inspired.

Next up: People who makes a difference.

AN ICONIC COLLECTOR

The eccentric heiress, celebrity and Fashion Icon, Daphne Guiness is another great collector of Haute Couture.

The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York has just opened an exhibition that features approxi-mately 100 garments and accessories from her personal
collection, including designs from the likes of Alexander McQueen, Azzedine Alaïa, Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, John Galliano for Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Rick Owens, Gareth Pugh, and Valentino.
Daphne Guinness' own designs are also on display. The exhibition is co-curated by Valerie Steele, Director and Chief Curator of The Museum at FIT. Check her out in this interview, by Nick Knight.

As an heiress to the Guiness Brewery and a divorcee to the Greek shipping billionaire Stavros Niarchos, she has the money to buy whatever she likes.

She is fearless and an inspiration for many designers. She even upgraded her own collection by buying the collection of her friend and distant relative, the late Isabella Blow last year, to preserve and keep it together. That´s nice.

FASHION INFLUENTAL TV-SERIES

Mad Men is an award-winning very popular American dramatic tv-series, that aired in 2007 and have had a great impact on the fashion world since then.

Mad Men takes place at an advertising agency in the 1960´es; a very inspirational decade in fashion. that continues to influence the designers of today, all over the world. Especially with an ongoing tv-series like that.

And we are not done yet, because a new British drama tv-series The Hour, inspired by the 1950, taking place at BBC television though, will probably maintain the fashion-influence from that period for a some time.

In The Fashion File, the book by the costume designer of Mad Men, Janie Bryant, you can find more inspiration and advices, if you´re mad about the 1960.

THE VERDICT

-of John Galliano is finally annonced. He was found guilty of hate speech influenced by alcohol addiction and prescripted drugs, earlier this year. Read the different reactions from back then here.

He apologized and went into treatment. He will not go to prison, but was issued suspended fines of 6000,- euro, if it ever happens again.

Accordingly his lawyer told the media, that he was very relieved. Luckily he is supported by friends like Kate Moss and Anna Wintour.

Come on! He lost his job at Dior and his own label. Enough is enough. I wish him the very best. Read my previous post on the subject here.

WHAT´S NEXT ?

Are you as excited as I am? -Looking forward to see what New York FashionWeek brings on for Spring 2012. The new collections, predictions, where will fashion go, what are the inspirations.

That said, I´m also excited to see who the next Contributor for My Fashion Moment here on my blog, will be. Don´t hold back, just bring it on !

Lately I have had a few add-suggestions from different companies. But I refused, because they didn´t fit in. Afterwards I thought why not? -You might as well get some money out of promoting what you really like.

I looked into Google´s AdSense to see what they could offer, but was not attracted. First, because they want exclusivity and I don´t think their layout fits my blog.

I prefer to select the right Sponsors and Advertisers, that I like and that fits my blog. Content could be everything that is related with fashion, exhibitions, education, lifestyle, of a certain quality that is.

Take a look at my labels or simply ask! If you have any suggestions, send me a request and we will work something out. My blog is viewed by people from all over the world every month.

Very a propos!

FASHION INFLUENCES

Where do they come from ?

A big source of inspiration for fashion-designers is often influenced by cultural, economical and political changes in society.

Just think of big events like the crash on Wall Street in 1929, the two world-wars, womans liberation in the 1960´s, 9/11 and the reactions afterwards, that have provoked new fashions.

Designers are catalysts and visionaries, who pick up the mood of the present, transform and make interpretations of what they see.

Culturally, movements like Hip hop, music and movies also influences and inspires fashion these days. But the current recession also makes designers  play it more safe and look back to earlier periods of time for inspirations. Like the 1960´es and 1970´es influence in todays fashion.

But I guess each new generation of designers is doing their take on that. That´s why we often see fashion repeats it self. But of course it will be a new interpretation every time. . . because they are influenced by the present also.

Fashion is very intriguing, because it always has and will continue to indicate what was going on in society at a certain period of time.
